Great Turkey Chase 2

Thirty-nine bicyclists showed up to take part in the Great Turkey Chase 2009, the second edition of this Thanksgiving themed event in Burlington, Vermont. Attendance was tripled from last year and so was the temperature gauge thankfully (snowing and 20-degrees in 2008's race). A warm 55-degree day hosted these riders as they made their way through a 15-mile course comprising of ten mandatory stops to collect a canned or boxed item predetermined on the manifest sheet. Once you purchased your item it was on to the next stop. The scene inside any of the grocery stores could only be described as mayhem, but once you explained to the person in line in front of you why you'd like to move ahead of them (charity), they were more than happy to oblige!
When it was all said and done Aaron Simmers successfully defended his title in the fixed gear division while young buck Peter Troy served 'em up in the geared class. The total amount of food delivered to the Vermont Food Bank weighed in at 556 pounds, including seven turkeys!
A great day on the bikes helping those in need.
