Surf Mission Part One

Surf mission…success! We loaded up the cars in Filefjell on Monday around noon and started the mission west to Hodevik. Highways, tunnels, ferry boats, mountain passes, food stops and nonstop picturesque scenery delivered us to the western coastline of Norway by six pm.

Our starting point was Filefjell on Highway E16, followed by a right turn onto the 5 with our first ferryboat about 30 minutes later. Fifteen minutes over the water we disembarked and continued all the way up the 5 to the next ferry boat. A quick five-minute ferry ride dumped us into the town of Nordfjordeid, where we stocked up two grocery carts of food for our evening barbeque and morning feast.

Thirty-two kilometers after Nordfjordeid, we made a right on the 61, followed by a connection onto the 620 headed towards Leikanger. After this it was a single lane mountain pass through Drage, and a final descent through the switchbacks (which Mikkel and Keegan skated) into Hodevik.

Mads and Mikkel have been coming to this surf spot for years to visit their friend who runs a surf camp there. With a proper invite from the locals, we arrived to a warm house stocked with wet suits, surfboards and good vibes. A quick change into the wet suits and we were in the water within minutes trying to catch the remains of a really good swell.

After an epic surf session (for a bunch of snowboarders), Mads got busy on the grill, the rest of us did the kitchen prep and then we all sat down to a hearty meal and gave our thanks to Mads and Mikkel for an epic tour through Norway. Blotto
