Surf Mission Part Three

After finishing up the surf session in Ervik, our plan was to take the day driving and sight seeing until we reached Filefjell. We returned the surfboards and wetsuits, packed up our crew and hit Highway 15, direction East.
To keep the journey fresh and cover as much landscape as possible, we routed the GPS through Stryn on Highway 15, instead of taking Highway 5 back to Filefjell. In the end, it would be one big circle through some of the most scenic terrain in the world.
The drive was going well with endless photo opportunities, a couple of skate sessions, munchie and coffee breaks, with a dinner plan in place at a town called Grotli.
Mads had prearranged an asparagus soup and salmon dinner at the Hotel Grotli for 8PM. Sure enough, we pulled in and the food was warm and ready to go…thanks to the great folks running/owning the hotel.
After dinner we got ready for a three-hour drive that would complete our mission and get us back just before midnight. As we were walking out the door, the hotel owner asked which way we were headed…we let him know 15 East to the 51 South. He then told us the mountain pass on Highway 51 was closed from 8PM to 8AM everyday this time of year.
So we had two options: drive all the way back around where we came from making it seven-plus hours home, or stay the night and finish the drive in the morning. Seeing how we had surfed, skated and drivin' the entire day, we thought is best (and safest) to grab a night’s rest at this epic hotel and finish our journey in the morning.
So that’s what we did…Blotto
