still the wild west

 

We loaded up the vehicle in Phoenix with our destination being Bisbee, Arizona. Our mission was to visit this historic mining town that boasts some very nice residents, restaurants, the Bisbee Bicycle Brothel and a chance to pedal their steep roadways and cut-throughs.

 

The journey from The Valley of the Sun takes you south on the 1-10 east for 161 miles (259KM), passing first through the every scenic Picacho Peak (Photos 1 and 2 below). After that you'll pass Tucson, staying on the 1-10 until reaching Benson and merging onto the AZ-80 East. After a quick stop in Benson to stretch the legs and snap a couple of photos, we got back in the ride and continued another 30 miles (48KM) until reaching Wild West town of Tombstone.

 

I hadn't been to this part of Arizona in years, so it was great to snap back into the Wild West as it was during the late 1800's. Yes, Tombstone is still in the 1800's! The entire town has been restored to mimic exactly how these gun-sliggin' days went down with the entire population in costume playing the part. It's quite cool to see Wyatt Earp and his boys walking down the street, horse drawn carriages and gun battles at the top of each hour.

 

We hung around and peeped the scene for a while enjoying sarsaparilla sodas and wondered if they had a WiFi connection in Tombstone during 2010. Back in the ride we continued East on the AZ80, with Bisbee just a few clicks away. Blotto
