Environmental Differences

After boarding the flight in Portland, we took off from the airport headed South, destination California. As with flying into Oregon, the departure was just as dramatic as you get a front row view of the numerous volcanoes that occupy the Oregon and Washington territories. We were even treated to this cloud layer that made a nice addition to the photos…gotta love Mother Nature!

Leaving the Northwest and arriving into the Los Angeles Basin is an environmental culture shock…going from giant volcanoes and thick forest to coastal mountains overrun by mankind and sprawl…what a trip! The human presence in Southern California couldn’t be any more apparent by the never ending sea of development, automobiles and road ways...viewing it from the window seat puts it in perspective.

After landing in LA, I rechecked the bags, grabbed my boarding pass to Sydney and began the mellow 14-hour flight to Australia. Touch down happened around seven in the morning, made it through customs and began a nice day around downtown…Blotto
