Jussi Tight Crop

The third tight crop ad to drop is Jussi Oksanen, backside 180 backside grab, from Mammoth Mountain. During this shoot the Burton movie crew was around filming the rider introductions with one of those high-speed cameras (which produces quality slow motion footage), so it was cool to see how something like this works.
To break it down quickly, the camera shoots at 1000 frames per second, taking up a boatload of storage space, which means they can only shoot for 10 seconds max. After the rider landed his/her trick (which corresponds with these ads), they would review the footage on a preview screen. If all parties were happy with the riding, filming and composition, the assistant would begin the ten minute download of the clip. After upload was complete, they'd do a few more shots or wrap it up once satisfied.
Back to the Jussi ad shot...he and I would shoot two or three attempts in between the download of the high speed clips...maybe it took us eight or nine times to get the photo we liked. I would have shot this ad photo all day long because Jussi is a such a character, it's a pleasure to work and laugh with this guy! Be sure to peep Standing Sideways when the premier tour hits your town...Bloto
