MU Tight Crop

The next edition of Burton's Tight Crop Ad Campaign is Swiss-born rider Stephan Maurer, aka 'MU.' Mu was the lucky recipient of the backflip assignment, which we both thought would be a no-brainer...we couldn't have been more wrong!

Our intention was to head up the hill (Dollar Mountain, Idaho), find a small booter and get the job done quick...sounds easy enough. After getting into it, we quickly realized that looking into the camera while back flipping isn't the simplest of tasks, seeing how the ad shot required the snowboarder to look directly into the lens while performing their maneuver...we couldn't sideslip around those instructions with another option.

We ended up trying three different jumps (straight jump, hip jump, side hit) along with four or five different angles before finally getting the image you see in the ad. Mu must have back flipped at least thirty times! Once we got the shot, we high-fived and hoped that Lance and Evan would be OK with our product...and they were...stoked!
