Journey North

The Journey North started in Seattle where I met up with Corey over at his home base in Redwood on Friday evening. Once the alarm rang at 6AM on Saturday, we were out by 6:30 for our appointment at I-90 Motorsports to pick up a snowmobile (for me) and a trailer (so we could tow Aaron and Rusty’s sleds). The trek across the border got interesting, but we quickly exited customs after a few questions from the officials about our intentions further up the globe.

About three clicks up the road we met Mark Sollors, Mikey Rencz, Rusty Ockenden, and Aaron to rearrange the snowmobiles. In order to cut down on the amount of vehicles driving 1300 kilometers north (807 miles), Corey threw Rusty and Aaron’s sleds on the truck and called it good. Talk about a serious rig trucking the Trans Canada Highway!

Having never driven this highway previously, I was in for a great sightseeing tour, which I enjoyed from the passenger seat, watching it rain followed by intermittent blue skies back to rain. The pedal stayed on the metal for the most part, with the only stops being food and fuel. Since the trek was to be somewhere in the neighborhood of eighteen hours, there wasn’t much time for ‘hey, pull over, let’s take a photo’ type scenarios.

The pavement was in fair shape all the way until eight or nine at night…with the final four hours being a bit dicey. Around two minutes to midnight, we found a decent motel, parked the trucks and and hit the hay. The journey would continue on Sunday morn…Blotto
