Dont Fence Me In - Manual Mag

Story pulled from Manual Mag (Australia) Number 26 - November 2007

In August of 2007, I organized a photo mission with Trevor Andrew, Tadashi Fuse, Marko Grilc and Tim Jackways on the South Island of New Zealand. We set up the ‘shoot parameters’ as follows: we couldn’t build a cheese wedge, use the back country, a helicopter, a snowmobile…absolutely nothing beyond chairlifts and parking lots. Each and every shot would be within ski area boundaries or where you parked the rental car for the day.

We chose Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Snowpark and Treble Cone as the four resorts to utilize over a ten-day period. Tim grew up in the Southern NZ area, so much of the terrain was a ‘blast from the past,’ spots Tim and his homies sessioned back in the day. Being able to revisit these areas with Trevor, Tadashi and Marko was definitely a treat for our tour guide and good friend.

This photo shoot ended up being one of most enjoyable of the year because there was zero pressure to find and execute the gnarliest stuff. It was all about cruising the resort and shooting whatever we came upon.
