Roam Around The World, Part II
Back in 2003 I teamed up with Pleasure Magazine for a twenty-page feature called "Roam Around the World, Part II." Markus and Bene from Pleasure had previously published Roam Around the World Part 1 in late 2000, based on my travels with the Burton Team from April 1999 to May 2000. Part II would be my favorite assignments from June of 2000 through May 2003, including scans of the black books, which keep track of all these crazy journeys. Markus handled the layout and graphics, I had to deliver the words, books and photo selections.
If I remember correctly I flew to Munich, Germany to work on this story...a quick 48-hour trip, I also recall my jet-lag was so bad I was sleeping on the Pleasure office couch for hours during the day while Bene dealt with the text and Markus scanned endless black book pages. They probably thought I was a slacker!
After we figured out which locations to feature and what photos to use, Markus came up with the flight path graphic to show each and every journey. The fine print lists the departure and arrival cities. I really liked the concept behind the design because it wasn't some graphic application to show lots of travel, it was the actual travel.
Ten spreads...that's a lot of editorial space! But that's how the Pleasure crew gets down and I can't thank them enough for all their years of kindness, from back then continuing through to this very day. Blotto
